Kaduna Govt. Gives Scholarship To 125 Students

As part of efforts to boost education and wipe out unemployment in Kaduna state, the state  government has awarded full scholarship to 125  students to study any course of their choice at different Universities abroad under the state’s Scholarship Scheme. Speaking during the distribution of admission letters to the students, Governor Mukhtar Yero  says  the state is sponsoring 22 of the students for Doctorate Degrees, 77 for Master of Science and 26 for  MBBS. He said the students would be sent to pursue their academic programmes in Malaysia, Ghana, South Africa, India, New Zealand, Egypt and Uganda. Governor Yero disclosed that the beneficiaries were selected on merit after a thorough screening exercise with all the 23 Local Government Areas equitably represented. He also disclosed  that his administration has so far spent the sum of N1.4billion on internal and external scholarships since he assumed Office on December 16, 2012 in addition to a recent approval for the disbursement of another N119,992,692.00 as scholarship to new students. According to the governor,  the scheme was initiated to improve the manpower capacity of the state for accelerated socio-economic development of the State. The State Commissioner for Education, Mr Ibrahim Ali while reading out some of the successes recorded in the sector,  commended the governor for his support and transformation of the education sector. He says the present administration had identified education as the bedrock for any development, hence the reason it is investing heavily in the sector.
Some of the students who could not hide their joy thanked the state government for providing such a rare  opportunity to them and assured to be good ambassadors of the state while in abroad and also to use the knowledge they will acquire abroad  for the development of the state. Gov. Yero’s administration is furthering the implementation of the programmes on free and Compulsory Primary Education and the general development of the education sector, including the allocation of 27% of its total annual budget to education.
